Focus on dignity by taking a few simple steps at work every day to build an atmosphere of respect and dignity for every single client, even if it seems as if they are not aware or do not care. Some absolute rules: avoid talking about the client as if they were not present, maintain confidentiality, preserve privacy, and consult with other caregivers and professionals discreetly. Do what you can to greet each person, to listen attentively, to interact, and to develop a relationship. Also help people gain (or regain) some measure of control over their lives by giving them choices when possible and giving them time and the means to express their opinions.
